Learn to Ride - Beginners

Learning to ride is a big milestone in a childs life, do you remember the first time you rode a bike unaided? It was probably both exhilarating and frightening. Sadly learning to ride isn't always a fun experience, if a childs first ride ends in a crash in can put them off riding a bike foreverer.

At Cycle Stars we try to take the fear out of learning to ride, by first teaching young riders how to balance, followed by, how to stop.

Each child is different and learn to ride in different time frames, yes there are children that can be riding within the first 20 minutes, but there are also many that it takes a lot longer, and that's okay! It's their journey, let them enjoy the experience and it won't be long before they are feeling the wind in their hair and joining our next group which is Ready Riders.

Here are a few tips that will help get your child started and make learning quicker.

  1. Use a balance bike, you can easily turn a standard bike into a balance bike, by removing the stabilisers and pedals.
  2. Make sure your child can reach the floor standing on flat feet whilst sitting on the saddle.
  3. Brakes; balance bikes fitted with brakes is a real advantage. If they get in the bad habit of stopping using their feet they are more likely to fall off when riding a pedal bike.
